Do you have difficulty swallowing? Many cases of difficulty swallowing are due to spasm and lack of relaxation of muscle fibers in the lower esophagus. The POEM procedure treats this problem by cutting the muscle layer through an endoscopic approach. This does not require surgery as was the case in the past.
